HOW DOES THE SYSTEM OF ACTIVE TANK PROTECTION

Many people have heard about the system of active protection of armored vehicles, but to see one of them in action - it is quite another matter. In this video you can see an Israeli tank Merkava IV, which was promoted by a shot from an RPG in the Gaza Strip, and the system of protection Trophy which intercepted and destroyed the shell before he was able to break his side armor.

Operation «Protective Edge» - this is the first field debut of Trophy. To date, the system is able to intercept at least five rockets fired at Israeli tanks.
Like its larger brethren, the system Iron Dome, Trophy tracks objects rapidly approaching the tank, using a set of fixed radar antennas fixed on his armor. The system automatically predicts the trajectory of the projectile and instantly directs the launcher which fires a container object with a handful of metal balls.
The whole process is fully automated and works for a few seconds or even fractions of a second, if the projectile is released at the tank at close range. After intercepting Trophy shows the exact direction of the tank crew, where the attack was made.
Trophy was created not only to counter the RPG shells and recoilless rifles, but also anti-tank missiles, such as those who shot some of the battle tanks. Rumor has it that the system can also work against missiles "air-land" - even those that have the Flight profile is strictly top-down.
In the United States defense contractor General Dynamics has teamed up with the developers Trophy for creating modular version of the system, which was called Bright Arrow. The system uses a central armory turret with a remote control, which can be installed even on lightly armored vehicles.
